Mott and Banes to battle it out in the quarter-finals of the Tennis Wollongong International

Blake Mott (NSW) has secured his place in the quarter-finals of the Tennis Wollongong International.

First seed Mott made easy work of youngster Kody Pearson (NSW), winning the match in straight sets, taking just over one hour. Mott raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set, eventually winning 6-1. Mott was too experienced for Pearson, serving three aces to take out the second set and the match 6-2.

"Playing in Wollongong this week has been great for my friends and family to see me play because they don't get a chance to see me very often," Mott said.

Maverick Banes (QLD) advanced to his fourth Tennis Wollongong International quarter-final with a 6-0 6-3 second round victory over qualifier Nathan Eshmade (SA). Banes won the first set in 21 minutes and wrapped up the match in 62 minutes.

Mott will now face Banes in tomorrow’s quarter-finals. This will be the fifth time the pair have met, with previous head to head meetings making it two wins each.

"I've played Mav a few times and he's really experienced, so it should be a really good match," Mott said.

Fourth seed Jarmere Jenkins (USA) has stormed into the men’s singles quarter-finals. The 2014 Tennis Wollongong International champion easily accounted for Queenslander Thomas Fancutt in today’s second round match, winning 6-1 6-2 in 53 minutes.

Jenkins will meet seventh seed Gavin van Peperzeel (QLD) in tomorrow’s quarter-finals, after van Peperzeel defeated Jeremy Beale (MEL) 6-1 6-0.

Top seeds and 2014 Tennis Wollongong International doubles winners, Banes and van Peperzeel are up against Finn Tearney (NZL) and Daniel Nolan (MEL) in tomorrow’s men’s doubles final after they defeated Nathan Pasha (USA) and Darren Polkinghorne (SA) in a thrilling match 4-6 7-6(1) (13-11). Banes and van Peperzeel will be looking to collect their sixth trophy as a doubles pair.

Singles quarter-finals will commence at 10am tomorrow morning with Mott first up on court 1. The doubles final will also be played tomorrow on court 1, not before 1pm.
